Road to the Isles Agricultural Show, Camusdarach
12th June 2010
(Second Saturday in June every year)
| This Agricultural Show focuses on the animals
reared in the area bounded by Knoydart, the Small Isles,
Mallaig, Morar, Arisaig. Lochailort, Glenfinnan to
Drumsallie Bridge and south through Ardnamurchan to Loch
Linnhe and Loch Eil. We try to highlight the interests of all the families concerned with crofting, farming or fishing, so there is a thriving handicrafts marquee exhibiting everything from vegetable animals from nursery school age children through knitting, sewing, painting, sketching, photography and carving to all manner of delicious home baking. There will also be a compost competition. HIGHLAND CATTLE This year we shall be adhering to the High Health Scheme for the Highland Cattle. There will be a separate area for the animals to be tethered and they will be shown in a different ring. During the afternoon there will be a parade of these beautiful animals in the main ring. RARE-BREED SHEEP For 2010 we hope to assemble a collection of the rare breed sheep to be found around here with some information about their origins and characteristics. |

Once the serious matter of judging the sheep, cattle and horses has taken place in the morning (starting at 10.30am), there is a full programme of entertainments associated with country pursuits in the show ring and round about (starting at 1.30pm).

In 2009 there was a Sheepdog demonstration by Mike McNally and
we hope he will be able to return this year. Other events planned for 2010 include: a return visit by the Loch Lomond Duck Show Team who entertained us greatly 4 years ago and Iain Chalmers' amazing chainsaw carvings which were a tremendous draw last year. There will also be a selection of local Nurseries selling a wonderful variety of herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. |

To provide energy for all these activities
there is a refreshment marquee and barbecue providing local burgers and
healthy sausages plus home-made soups,
rolls full of home cooked venison, ham, prawns etc.,
home-made cakes and biscuits, a bar marquee and the Coastguards'
barbecue with plenty of prawns.
