Mallaig
At the end of the mainland road and the West Highland Railway Line lies Mallaig, just over an hour from Fort William.
A full range of accommodation, banks, supermarkets, swimming pool, post office and Tourist Information Centre makes this area a good place to stay for a while or discover new places to visit.
| The ferries
come and go to Armadale on Skye,
Uist (proposed) and the Small Isles
of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna. If you only have a day to spare and want to visit the Isle of Skye, Peter MacDonald can take you on a Luxury Guided Tour. |

Regular trips in these waters are operated during the summer by Bruce Watt whose boat takes the mail to Loch Nevis all year round, so relax for a day on the ocean wave and you may spot a whale or two.
|
In the busy bay you are likely to see many
fishing boats and sometimes the local lifeboat. To learn of the centuries of struggle to scrape a living from the land and the sea, and the local population's arrival to found this thriving fishing port - visit the Mallaig Heritage Centre. |
| Fresh fish and the famous Mallaig kippers are available in local hotels, restaurants and in the fish shops. By the harbour, Fish Merchant Andy Race has a shop and also offers a mail order service selling a variety of freshly caught seafood. | |
