Famous for its Silver Sands with excellent bathing facilities, Morar is one of the most beautiful as well as historic districts in the Western Highlands, comprising a magnificent combination of mountains, moors and lochs. Local walks are varied and splendid. Fishing can be had for salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Morar and its surrounding area is very popular for the making of many films including 'Local Hero' and 'Rob Roy'.
Loch Morar nearby, is twelve miles long and Europe's deepest loch at over 1,000 feet. Like Loch Ness in the nearby Great Glen, Loch Morar has its resident monster, called Morag. Over the years many reliable sightings have been reported, a high proportion from local inhabitants.
At Mallaig, a distance of three miles, there is a car ferry which runs daily to the island of Skye. There are also day cruises available to Skye, Loch Nevis and the Inner Hebrides. Full details are given on the Transport page of this web site.
